KBR in West Qurna-1 Gas Compressor Station Contract

By John Lee.

KBR has been awarded a contract by AKT Oil Services Company (AKT) [Abraj Al-Kut Oil Services Company] to provide detailed engineering design services for the West Qurna-1 Low-Pressure Gas Capture Project in Iraq.

The project is part of Basra Gas Company (BGC)'s programme to expand gas capture infrastructure and reduce flaring across southern Iraq.

Under the contract, KBR will provide multi-discipline detailed engineering design services for Gas Compressor Station 6 at the West Qurna 1 oil field. The project is designed to capture low-pressure associated gas that is currently flared and integrate it into Iraq's domestic energy value chain.

The project is being delivered by AKT under its engineering, procurement and construction contract with BGC.

Euan McCulloch, KBR Vice President, Middle East, said the award "builds on our decades-long presence in Iraq and reflects our continued focus on engineering solutions that support energy security, gas monetization and lower-carbon development across the region."

KBR's Mission Technology Solutions business is expected to be spun off as an independent public company in January 2027 and will then operate under the new name Trinzic.
