Major sewerage projects in Baghdad and Fallujah are being launched shortly at an overall cost of close to $140 million [168 billion Iraqi dinars], the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works on announced Monday.
The ministry’s media advisor, Jassim Mohammed, told AKnews that $72.5 million has been allocated to a sanitation scheme in Baghdad’s northern Husseiniya district, and a similar project in the city of Fallujah (pictured) in Anbar is setting the government backing to the tune of $66.6 million.
“The two projects will be implemented by local companies in within 12 months,” said Mohammed, describing the schemes as “eco-friendly” because they include “high-specification treatment plants for recycling waste”.
