In 2018 Crescent Petroleum secured three concessions within federal Iraq for the development of gas fields in Diyala province,
as well as the Khidhr Al Mai exploration block in southern Iraq, promising to expand the company's gas footprint in the country. The concessions set Crescent Petroleum apart as holder of the largest number of blocks in Iraq, with the largest exploration area of any other international oil company operating in the country.
