Oil and Gas Fields: Fao

Name: Fao (also known as Faw)

Controlled by: Ministry of Oil (Baghdad).

Location: This block situated within Basra Governorate adjacent to Iraqi-Kuwaiti-Iranian international borders with area of 1,398 km². One geological structure has been identified in the block, namely: Umm-Qasr. One additional stratigraphic lead has also been identified on block.

Discovery: One exploration well has been drilled in the block. Initial assessment suggested that the block holds oil and gas accumulations.

Developed by: United Energy Group (UEG)

Contract granted: Fifth-plus licensing round, May 2024. (Had previously been offered, but not awarded, in the fifth licensing round in April 2018.)

Form of Contract: EDPC (Exploration, Development and Production Contract)
