British and Iraqi companies have attended a Basra-based conference on investment opportunities in the province, a local official said on Saturday.
“The conference was organized by the Basra Investment Commission in cooperation with Amar al-Khayr Organization at Manawi Pasha Hotel,” the head of the commission, Haydar Ali Fadel, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The event aims basically to bring together a grouping of British and Iraqi businessmen under the sponsorship of Baroness Emma Nicholson of Winterbourne so as to stimulate investment ventures in the province.”
The event dealt with investment opportunities in the city and direct meetings between Iraqi and British investors and businessmen to come up with business propositions.
Talks have been held between representatives of the companies and of the oil and gas sectors, in addition to officials from the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), Fadel noted.
