In preparation for the planned increase in production from Basra's oilfields, the Iraqi Oil Ministry plans to build 4 new offshore moorings for tankers in the Persian Gulf. Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani said the moorings will be ready by the middle of next year, so that giant oil tankers too big for the ports of Amaya and Basra can upload.
According to The Economist, the work will be carried out by oil-services company Foster Wheeler.
Work the the Rumaila and Majnoon oilfields will begin in the middle of this year, and is expected to increase the production to more than two million barrels per day by the end of the year, and to more than ten million barrels per day during next few years.
