The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture said that 2008 statistics have revealed a 150% increase in the number of the country’s animals compared to 2001.
This came during a conference organized by the ministry in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and attended by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The number of livestock increased by 150% in 2008 in comparison to 2001,” a senior under secretary of state in the Ministry of Agriculture, Subhi al-Jameeli, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“A lack of awareness by farmers and peasants in the past was the reason for the drop in livestock numbers in Iraq,” he explained.
