Mr Michael Aron has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq.
He will succeed Mr John Jenkins CMG LVO who has transferred to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Aron will take up his appointment with immediate effect.
Mr Aron joined the FCO in 1984 and served at the British Embassies in Brasilia and Amman and at the UK Permanent Mission to the UN in New York and the Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels before becoming Ambassador to Kuwait in 2008.
On his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, Mr Aron said:
“I am delighted to be taking up this appointment. I aim to promote British commercial, economic, political and security interests in Iraq and to help Iraq play a positive role in the Middle East region at a time of unprecedented change.”
