The Middle East Association will host a Lunch for Mr Michael Aron, HM Ambassador to Iraq, on Monday 31st October at Bury House.
Michael is a career diplomat, having joined the FCO in 1984. His early work included Iran, the UK Mission to the UN, and the European Commission. He has held a number of Middle East posts, including Peace Process Desk Officer (1991-1993), Deputy Head of Middle East Department (1996-1997), Deputy Head of Mission in Amman (1999-2002), Ambassador to Kuwait (2008-2009), and Head of Middle East Department (2010-2011). He was appointed Ambassador to Iraq in May 2011.
Despite the complexities of a post-conflict environment, Iraq is making major strides in rebuilding its economy in order to engage comprehensively with international trade and commerce. Ever more British companies are starting to take the necessary steps to enter this promising market.
There are major opportunities across a number of sectors, such as power, infrastructure, housing, water, healthcare and education, as well as the traditionally-strong oil and gas sector. We look forward to hearing Michael's perspectives on British-Iraqi relations, and business practicalities in Iraq.
