Consumer Rights Law and a Board to monitor the price and quality of commodities
We often hear that people complain about the continuous increase in the prices of major commodities. People fear that they will not be able to afford their daily needs if prices continue to go up. This issue needs to be addressed.
While we try to build our economic future and support the private sector, we unfortunately see the prices of some commodities and necessities are going up without any reason. If we discover that this skyrocketing of prices is being caused by some businessmen who are misusing the support that the government has offered them, then we will take serious measures to control this abuse.
To their credit, the Kurdistan Parliament has already worked to help address this problem. Two years ago they passed the Consumer Rights Law. We will implement this and all other laws passed by the parliament, and we will work with the KRG Ministry of Planning to establish a board to monitor the prices and qualities of the merchandise that are imported into the Kurdistan Region. We must work so that both merchants and consumers benefit from the policies of a free market and so that people can afford to buy their necessities at fair prices.
Financial assistance
The government will continue to offer loans and mortgages to those who need them in order to make it easier for them to get married, build houses or complete other projects.
We will also work with the KRG Ministry of Finance to find a mechanism to better support the Region's pensioners and to review and eliminate the gaps in their salaries.
Government transparency
Many people believe that the government is working secretly or is hiding information from them. However, all the decisions of the government have to do with the people and their livelihood or with the future of the Kurdistan Region. Therefore we will strive to make the decision making process open and transparent and to make information available to the people so that they can be informed regarding the activities of the government.
The KRG, as a national institution, is the product of direct elections of the people and it has nothing to hide. It is very disappointing that some groups are trying to portray the government as an enemy of the people; such behavior will create long term distrust and will have negative consequences for all parties, for society, and for the country as a whole.
We will work to encourage a sense of citizenship and to make every individual proud of his nation and his country's interests.
Government jobs
Our people deserve the best opportunities, and when it comes to seeking jobs with the KRG, we will strive to ensure that hiring is both competitive and transparent.
Political parties should not interfere with the hiring process of the government, and we will work to uphold this principle. Hiring must be done according to the needs of government departments, percentages of graduates, degrees, professionalism and within the budget allocation of the year the hiring process is planned for. The sixth cabinet built a good foundation for this process and we will continue the policy that they began.
Individual responsibility
We do admonish ourselves when some of our people feel alienated from the political process, but in addition to all that the government does, there must also be other institutions to follow up and study the situation and needs of Kurdistan’s people.
