Iraq-Kuwait Relations Take a Step Forward

The official visit to Baghdad of Kuwait's prime minister, Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, appears to mark a significant development in the improving relations between the two countries.

Following their meeting on Wednesday, officials from both sides signed a series of agreements relating to diplomacy, the economy, transport, culture, higher education and the environment.

In a statement, Iraq said the country "[values] the positive and constructive stance expressed by the government and people of Kuwait aimed at assisting Iraq's exit from Chapter VII of the UN Charter, after Iraq's complete fulfillment of its obligations according to related Security Council resolutions".

The thawing of relations between Iraq and Kuwait is to be welcomed, as is Iraq's progress towards exiting Chapter VII.
