The source also revealed that Haidar al-Mulla, a member of the Iraqi National Dialogue Front bloc, has met with Sadr and handed him a list of names of 80 deputies requesting the questioning of Minister Adeeb. He added that Suhail himself is obstructing the interrogation procedures.

The source added that "Sadr asked Dia al-Asadi, the head of [the Sadrist] parliamentary bloc, to investigate Suhail’s position. It was shown that he was obstructing the questioning of [personalities] close to Maliki."

Speaker of Parliament Osama al-Nujaifi said in a statement that he will look into Suhail’s resignation decision and take "the necessary" steps in this regard. He expressed "sorrow and regret" over Suhail’s decision.

Nujaifi said, "First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Qusay al-Suhail has submitted his resignation from office, for private reasons."

He noted his high appreciation "of Suhail's efforts in confronting and combating corruption and the corrupt, and supplying all the legislative and procedural requirements to ensure the success of fighting this destructive cancer in the body of the homeland."

He added, "Suhail has a spirit of challenge, and is persevering and patient in building a real and solid state of democratic institutions, and in responding to the challenges that are sweeping our country."

For his part, Mulla, a Sunni member of the National Dialogue Front, said that “Suhail was fired and did not resign." He did not reveal who dismissed him and for what reasons.
