A couple of fashion stories went largely undetected this week as Baghdad held no less than 2 fashion events showcasing homegrown designer talent.
The first was held at the Palestine Hotel and was a cat walk show featuring pret a porter dresses from Iraqi designer Mona Sultan.
For those unacquainted with fashion terminology (like this IBN writer) pret a porter refers to factory made clothing produced in standard sizes, as opposed to tailored garments.
Sultan's work comes under her own Inanna brand, named after the Sumerian goddess of love and fertility.
Shortly after that event Iraqi designer Wafa al-Shathar held a show with some 20 dresses inspired by Kurdish traditions, in celebration of the Kurdish Newroz festival.
