Zebari Receives UN Director for Women

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hoshyar Zebari, has received the UN Regional Bureau Director for Women in the Arab States, Samira Tuwaijri, and her accompanying delegation in Caira.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the UN activities in Baghdad and Erbil and the programs that the UN aims at doing with the Iraqi government; Tuwaijri praised the government's efforts to ratify the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

Foreign Minister Zebari stressed the Iraqi constitution's and State's support for the women's rights and empowerment in the society as well as their support for social diversity, particularly the adoption of the women's quota in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, confirming the Ministry's support for the efforts of the bureau for the success of its mission.
