Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad would like to remind U.S. citizens of upcoming Iraqi National Elections on April 30, 2014.

The U.S. government fully supports these elections and encourages all Iraqis to participate in the democratic process by casting their votes.

In order to secure the elections, the Government of Iraq may take steps that will impact transportation in the country.

The U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens in all areas of Iraq, including the International Zone (IZ), monitor local media regarding transportation issues and remain alert to local security developments.

U.S. citizens should maintain a heightened sense of security awareness and take appropriate measures to enhance personal security at all times, including the period around the elections.

Avoid large gatherings and areas of public demonstrations, which sometimes turn violent. U.S. citizens are advised to keep a low profile; vary days, times, and routes of travel; and exercise caution while driving and entering or exiting vehicles.
