A new civilian airport in Karbala province has been approved, according to a report from Alsumaria News.
The Imam Hussein Airport project is to be funded by the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine Authority.
It will be constructed in three phases and will have a capacity of 15-20 million passengers a year.
It has been reported that an un-named French firm has already prepared designs for the project.
