Iraqi Brick Factories must switch to Liquefied Gas

By John Lee.

The Iraqi government has given brick factories 18 months to switch from using "black oil" to liquefied gas.

"Black oil" or "dark oil" is also sometimes referred to as "residual fuel oil", "bunker oil" or "heavy fuel oil (HFO)". It is a heavy, viscous byproduct of the refining process for lighter fuels like petrol and diesel.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Economic Ministerial Council, chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, which was called to discuss key economic decisions and financial and administrative reforms outlined in the government program.

The meeting included business leaders from the oil industry, with Al-Sudani emphasizing the government's support for a robust private sector, crucial for creating jobs and establishing a domestic industry to meet local market needs.
