Progress at Baghdad's Al-Jawahiri Residential City Project

By John Lee.

The Iraqi Ministry of Construction continues to push forward with the construction of Al-Jawahiri Residential City in Baghdad, with accelerated work on site preparation, including leveling, excavation, and soil compaction.

The project, spanning 7,121 dunams [1,760 acres, 712 hectares], will feature 30,000 residential units and 10,000 serviced land plots, along with commercial centers, 70 schools, and various urban facilities.

Designed with smart city principles, the development focuses on modern infrastructure and environmental sustainability. Worker accommodations are also being built as part of the ongoing efforts.

Construction started on the project in January, with local press reporting that it is being built by the East China Engineering Science and Technology Company and China National Chemical Engineering Company (CNCEC), along with Iraqi company Shams al-Binaa [part of SAC Group].
