Iraq's Minister of Transport, Mr. Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, officially reopened the Baghdad-Ramadi railway in Anbar province last week, marking a significant milestone after the line had been inactive for 20 years due to terrorism.
A lengthy press release from the Ministry gave few details of the project; it included pictures of the Minister, but none of the new facilities.
In his remarks, the Minister emphasized the importance of reactivating all suspended railways and praised the local government's support for these initiatives. Anbar Governor, Mr. Mohammed Nouri Al-Karbouli, expressed his gratitude for the ministry's focus on the region, highlighting the need for enhanced public transportation. Anbar Provincial Council Chairman, Mr. Omar Mashaan Daboos, lauded the railway's reopening, stressing its impact on remote areas and advocating for more infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation of public bus terminals.
During a meeting with the local government, Al-Saadawi announced plans to reopen the Anbar-Qaim railway and initiate collective transport services. The ministry is also working on launching the Baghdad-Qaim mass transit line by the end of the year, aligning with the national "Year of Achievements" campaign spearheaded by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to fully renovate the Fallujah bus terminal, restore all rail lines across the province, and improve transportation facilities throughout Anbar. A joint committee between the ministry and local government will be formed to assess and address the province's transport needs.
