BOC opens New Fuel Depot at West Qurna 1

By John Lee.

Basra Oil Company (BOC) has opened the first phase of a new fuel depot at the West Qurna 1 field.

The depot, with a storage capacity of 800,000 liters, was opened by Mr. Asaad Aboud, Director of the West Qurna 1 Field Operations.

Mr. Aboud explained that the current storage capacity of the old depot, which will be integrated into the new facility in the second phase, is 400,000 liters. This will bring the new depot's total capacity to 1.2 million liters upon completion of both phases.

The Director emphasized the importance of establishing on-site fuel storage facilities to expand capacity and provide an emergency reserve. Phase one of the project includes the installation of eight 100,000-liter fuel tanks, equipped with pumps, meters, and generators, along with a control and management building.

In the second phase, storage containers from the old depot will be relocated to the new facility, enhancing overall capacity. This expanded storage will meet the field's fuel needs, particularly for the submersible pump wells, and will secure a strategic reserve for emergency use.
