Iraq Seeks Defense Collaboration with Leading Spanish Firms

During his to visit to Spain this week Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani held discussions with representatives from Rheinmetall Expal, Indra, and Airbus.

Rheinmetall Expal Munitions describes itself as, "a world-renowned ammunition and armament manufacturer specialised in artillery ammunition, mortar and medium calibre rounds as well as fuzes and rocket propulsion systems." The company was formed in 2023 when Germany's Rheinmetall AG completed its takeover of Expal Systems of Madrid.

Indra Sistemas is a Spanish information technology and defense systems company founded in 1992.

The meetings explored opportunities for collaboration to modernize Iraq's military and security systems.

The Prime Minister emphasized Iraq's commitment to diversifying its defense resources and enhancing the readiness of its security forces as part of a broader strategic plan to address internal and external challenges.

Potential projects with Spain's defense sector aim to bolster Iraq's Defense Industries Commission and improve overall security capabilities.
