Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani has officially inaugurated the reconstructed Al-Fatha Bridge over the Tigris River, restoring a crucial transportation link between Salah al-Din and Kirkuk Governorates.
The 540-meter bridge, which was destroyed during the war against ISIS, has been rebuilt with enhanced capabilities following the Prime Minister's directive to accelerate its completion during his August 2023 visit, when the project stood at less than 40% completion.
Key features of the reconstructed bridge include:
- Dual-purpose design supporting both transportation and infrastructure needs
- Capacity to carry oil and gas pipelines from Kirkuk to Baiji Refinery
- Function as a critical trade corridor for agricultural products and goods
- Connection of Salah al-Din to northern provinces via Kirkuk
During the remote inauguration ceremony, Al-Sudani highlighted that investing in transportation infrastructure generates long-term economic benefits, including job creation and agricultural and industrial growth throughout the region.
The Prime Minister commended the dedicated efforts of the governorate officials, workers, and the executing company who collaborated to complete the bridge and overcome previous obstacles that had delayed the project.
