CBI, UNDP discuss Digital Economy and Banking Reform

The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) Governor, Ali Mohsen Al-Allaq, met in Baghdad with Titon Mitra, the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq.

Talks focused on technical advisory cooperation regarding the regulatory framework for e-commerce, aiming to strengthen consumer protection and create a safe environment for the growth of Iraq's digital economy.

Governor Al-Allaq reviewed progress in Iraq's digital transformation, highlighting the reduction in reliance on cash and expansion of electronic transactions in trade and services. He also discussed the CBI's banking sector reform plan, being implemented in cooperation with international consultants, including Oliver Wyman.

For his part, Mitra praised the CBI's reform track and reaffirmed UNDP's support for developing Iraq's financial sector as a foundation for wider economic stability and trade growth.
