Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani chaired a special meeting on Monday to review progress on the Ali Al-Wardi New Residential City (Madinat al-Ward), planned for southeast Baghdad.
The project, spanning 61 million square metres, will provide 120,000 housing units of various types. It is positioned as a key solution to Iraq's housing crisis and will be developed alongside the Al-Fursan and Al-Nahrawan new cities.
The meeting, attended by the Minister of Construction and Housing, the Chairman of the National Investment Commission (NIC), representatives from the Prime Minister's Advisory Board, the New Cities Authority, and a delegation from Egypt's ORA Real Estate Development, addressed technical, administrative, and legal aspects, including land preparation and ownership transfer.
Al-Sudani instructed that all obstacles be resolved swiftly and called for integrated planning to connect the new cities to main ring roads. He also emphasised the need to prioritise sewage and water networks, finalise ownership transfers, and ensure proper infrastructure planning for all neighbourhoods.
