Progress at Al-Jawahiri Residential City

The National Investment Commission (NIC) has conducted a field visit to the Al-Jawahiri Residential City project, located in in Abu Ghraib, west of Baghdad.

An engineering team inspected progress at the housing development, reviewing implementation stages and assessing compliance with the terms of the investment licence and approved timelines.

The visit focused on:

  • Compliance with investment licence conditions
  • Adherence to approved project schedules
  • Completion of contractual and technical requirements
  • Alignment with recognised engineering standards

The Commission also reviewed proposed residential designs and models intended to meet market demand and provide an integrated modern living environment.

Al-Jawahiri Residential City is one of Iraq's largest housing projects, covering more than 7,000 dunums and planned to deliver over 24,500 housing units.

Construction started on the project in January 2024, with local press reporting that it is being built by the East China Engineering Science and Technology Company and China National Chemical Engineering Company (CNCEC), along with Iraqi company Shams al-Binaa [part of SAC Group].
