Iraqi Geological Survey has launched a strategic project to explore limestone reserves in Muthanna province to support the cement industry.
The initiative focuses on assessing deposits in the Al-Ghadhari area, identifying high-quality raw materials suitable for producing various types of cement, including ordinary Portland cement and sulphate-resistant cement.
Key objectives of the project include:
- Evaluating limestone reserves for industrial use
- Supporting domestic cement production with high-quality raw materials
- Enhancing supply for construction and development projects
- Identifying new investment opportunities in the sector
The Survey said field teams are using advanced geological survey techniques to accurately determine reserve volumes and assess suitability for industrial applications.
Officials added that the project forms part of broader efforts to develop Iraq's geological sector, improve efficiency, and strengthen the industrial base supporting economic growth.
