EBRD Cuts Iraq GDP Growth Forecast

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has revised its forecast for Iraq's real GDP growth downward, projecting a contraction of 1.5 per cent for 2026, down from a February estimate of 3.6% growth for the year.

According to the EBRD's June forecast, the figures for Iraq are as follows:

  • 2024 actual growth: 0.1%
  • 2025 actual growth: -0.4%
  • 2026 Q1 estimate: -1.5%
  • June 2026 forecast for 2026: -1.5%
  • June 2026 forecast for 2027: +4%

The EBRD also noted that growth across the southern and eastern Mediterranean region is estimated to slow from 3.1 per cent in 2025 to 2.5 per cent in 2026.
