Iraqi trucks operated by the General Company for Land Transport have completed the first journey under the TIR transit system from the Arar border crossing to the Inche Burun border crossing on the Iran-Turkmenistan border.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the operation was coordinated with relevant government, border, and customs authorities through the ministry's contact point with the International Road Transport Union (IRU), to ensure smooth procedures and compliance with TIR system requirements along the route.
Mortada Karim Al-Shahmani, Director General of the General Company for Land Transport, said the journey represents an expansion of the Iraqi transport fleet into international TIR operations, and that the loan mechanism used allows greater efficiency and flexibility, enhancing the competitiveness of Iraqi carriers and opening access to regional and international trade corridors.
