Iraq has expressed interest in deepening economic ties with Italy and broader engagement with European Union member states. Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi met with Italian Ambassador Niccolò Fontana in Baghdad on Sunday, with discussions covering bilateral relations and ways to develop cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, Ali al-Zaidi emphasised Iraq's openness to Italian investment, particularly in the fields of energy, agriculture, and industry, and invited Italian companies to participate in the country's development programmes. Fontana affirmed his government's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in all areas of joint cooperation.
