Plans are under discussion for an Indian investment in a pipe manufacturing complex in Basra, producing oil, gas, and water pipelines for infrastructure projects and the domestic market. The National Investment Commission (NIC) met with a delegation from Indian company Man Industries this week to explore the proposal.
Adel Dakhil Muhammad al-Yasiri, head of the NIC, said the Commission was ready to provide facilitation, coordinate with relevant authorities on land allocation, and assist with completing all necessary procedures. The meeting also covered guarantees and incentives available under Iraqi investment law, including ten-year tax and customs exemptions, freedom to transfer funds, protection for domestic products, and support for importing technical expertise and training Iraqi personnel.
The Man Industries delegation said Basra was chosen for its strategic location adjacent to oil production centres and seaports, positioning it as a hub for manufacturing and distributing pipes across all provinces and for transferring modern technology to the country.
