Iraq Recovers $13m Held in French Banks

By John Lee.

Iraq has recovered $13 million in state funds that were frozen in French banks, following court orders and coordination with international and domestic authorities.

According to the Iraqi Fund for Asset Recovery (IFAR), the recovered amount has been deposited into accounts held by the Ministry of Finance, following the completion of required procedures and coordination with the Arab Swiss Bank. Dr Mohammed Ali al-Lami, chairman of the fund's board of directors, confirmed that the recovery was the result of follow-up efforts conducted in coordination with relevant international and local bodies.

Al-Lami noted that the recovery was linked to meetings held during Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's visit to France, in which the head of the Federal Commission of Integrity participated as part of the accompanying government delegation.
