The Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Iraq 2025-2029, a joint framework between the Iraqi government and the United Nations, was formally launched on Sunday at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Planning in Baghdad. The event was organised by the ministry's International Cooperation Department, with representatives from government ministries, UN agencies, and international and regional organisations in attendance.

Dr Maher Hammad Juhan, the ministry's Undersecretary for Technical Affairs, said the framework had been developed through joint efforts between national institutions, UN agencies, and international partners, and that its priorities are aligned with Iraq's Vision 2030, the government programme, and the National Development Plan (NDP) for 2024-2028.

UN Resident Coordinator for Iraq Peter Hawkins noted that the framework had been signed by both parties on 25th December 2025, and said it supports progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. He said the event offered an opportunity to review UN-supported programmes and their alignment with government priorities, and to strengthen national participation in results groups and programme monitoring.

The ceremony included working-group sessions covering inclusive social development, sustainable economic development and employment, environment and climate resilience, good governance and the rule of law, and data, monitoring and evaluation.
