A parliamentary workshop has been held to discuss proposed amendments to Investment Law No. 13 of 2006. The session was convened by the Iraqi Council of Representatives' Investment and Development Committee, under the patronage of Deputy Speaker Adnan Fayhan.
According to the National Investment Commission (NIC), the workshop was attended by members of the parliamentary investment committee, a number of other Council of Representatives members, and heads of provincial investment commissions, as well as representatives of relevant bodies.
The session reviewed a draft amendment, with discussions focusing on the need for a comprehensive legal framework to support investment institutions, address challenges in project implementation, and improve coordination between the NIC and provincial investment bodies.
NIC Chairman Adel Dakhil Muhammad al-Yasiri said the commission's participation was aimed at contributing to the development of proposed amendments to simplify procedures, improve legislative clarity, and enhance Iraq's attractiveness to quality investment.
Follow-up meetings are to be held at NIC headquarters, with participation from the chairman and heads of provincial investment commissions, to continue technical and legal discussions ahead of finalising the draft amendment.
