BP Takes Over Kirkuk Oil and Gas Operations

By John Lee.

Operations at four Kirkuk oil and gas fields have been transferred from North Oil Company (NOC) and North Gas Company (NGC) to a joint operating authority established to manage the fields. The transfer covers the Kirkuk oil field, Bai Hassan oil field, and the Khabbaz and Jambur fields.

The ceremony was held on Thursday and overseen via closed-circuit television by Minister of Oil Basim Muhammad Khudhair al-Abadi. BP is the strategic partner in the project.

According to the Ministry of Oil, targets for the fields include oil production of 450,000 barrels per day and gas utilisation of 500 million standard cubic feet per day. The minister said BP would receive full ministry support to achieve these objectives, and that the project would include staff training, technology and knowledge transfer, and the provision of community services and local infrastructure.
