Consultations Under Way on Iraq Companies Law Reform

By John Lee.

Proposed amendments to Iraq's Companies Law No. 21 of 1997 have been discussed at a meeting convened by the Ministry of Trade, with participation from representatives of economic federations and organisations, the Private Sector Development Council, the Iraq Securities Commission (ISC), and the Company Registration Directorate.

According to the Ministry of Trade, the meeting reviewed observations and proposals submitted by participants on draft amendments prepared by the ministry's Legal Directorate. The Private Sector Development Department convened the meeting as part of an effort to involve private sector representatives in revising economic legislation.

Observations and proposals discussed at the meeting are to be documented and submitted to the committee responsible for amending the law, chaired by the Director General of the Legal Directorate, ahead of completing the formal amendment process.
