$2.5bn 'Heist of the Century': Iraqi Officials Sentenced

By John Lee.

Karkh Criminal Court in Baghdad has sentenced three defendents in the "tax deposit" scandal, often referred to as the "heist of the century."

The case involves the theft of 3.7 trillion Iraqi dinars ($2.5 billion) from the General Tax Authority's account at the state-run Rafidain Bank.

According to a brief statement from the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), the court sentenced businessman Noor [Nour] Zuhair Jassim to 10 years in prison; Raed Jouhi [Raid Juhi], a judge and director of former prime minister Mustafa Al Kadhimi's office, to 6 years in prison, and; former MP and head of the parliamentary finance committee, Haitham Al-Jubouri, to 3 years in prison.

All three were sentenced in absentia. Several other implicated officials received varying sentences.

There's no room for this corruption and I'm glad to see that you were able to stop it before it could go any further. Great job people!

Righteousness is coming to Iraq. It's time to clean up the wrongdoers one prosecution at a time, as will be happening now with Trump back in charge here in the USA. God is readying Iraq for the great blessings they deserve.
