Liqaa al-Ashqaa to Build New School in Al-Burjesia

By John Lee.

The Ministry of Oil has laid the foundation stone for the new Al-Ibdaa "Creativity School" in the Al-Burjesia area of Basra province. The initiative is part of the Ministry's social benefits programme aimed at supporting the education sector, in cooperation with Eni and the Zubair oil field.

Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul Ghani led the ceremony, emphasising the Ministry's commitment to education and its continued role in constructing and equipping schools through its community engagement efforts.

The new facility, designed to accommodate 600 students, will replace the existing school located in the employee residential compound. It will feature two floors with 19 classrooms (including one for students with special needs), science and computer labs, a library, an art and music room, a 120-seat assembly hall, and supporting utilities such as sanitation facilities, canteen, electrical, water, and fire alarm systems, internet, CCTV, and air conditioning.

The administrative section will include offices for the headteacher and staff, a meeting room, and an exam committee room. The school will also have a 20x40 metre football pitch, a staff car park, and green spaces.

Construction is contracted to Liqaa al-Ashqaa, and is scheduled to be completed within two years, followed by a one-year warranty and maintenance period.
