The Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, held a round of political consultations in Vienna on Friday with the Secretary-General of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nikolas Marschik. The talks covered bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual concern.
Ambassador Bahr Al-Uloom outlined Iraq's recent political progress, noting that the country continues to make advances in democratic governance. He highlighted that the upcoming elections, scheduled for 11 November, are now an established feature of Iraq's constitutional political system and are widely respected by all parties.
He also emphasised Iraq's successful management of regional challenges and its efforts to shield the country from the consequences of regional tensions and conflicts.
For his part, Marschik presented Austria's latest political and economic developments, describing Iraq as a key state in the Arab region. He praised Austria's decision to reopen its embassy in Baghdad, which has helped strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation.
Marschik also expressed Austria's intention to increase investment and operational engagement in Iraq, in light of the country's notable security and economic progress.
Both sides stressed the importance of continued diplomatic dialogue as a means to resolve disputes and avoid escalation, as well as enhancing coordination in international organisations to promote global peace and stability. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintain regular consultations and expand cooperation between the two nations.
