KOICA-Funded Hospital Advances in Dhi Qar

Nasiriyah Heart Hospital received a Korean medical delegation as part of a new phase of the Iraq-Korea joint cooperation project.

The project is funded through a grant from KOICA [Korea International Cooperation Agency] for the Establishment of the Korea-Iraq Specialized Hospital for Children with Heart Disease (2020-2030 / USD 27.93 million).

A conference was held on February 16 in the presence of Mr. Haitham Aziz Al-Hamdani, Governor of Dhi Qar, Dr. Ahmed Ghani Al-Khafaji, member of the Provincial Council, Dr. Silwan Qahtan Sultan, Director of Nasiriyah Heart Surgery Hospital, and Dr. Kim Woong-Han, Head of the Korean medical delegation.

During the visit, the delegation performed open-heart surgeries for complex congenital heart defects and provide training for Iraqi medical personnel in preparation for their work at the future Iraq-Korea Specialized Hospital for Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.

The project aims to localize advanced pediatric cardiac services and reduce the need for treatment abroad in line with international medical standards.
