Angola's Sonangol has reported an incident involving the oil tanker Sonangol Namibe (pictured) while anchored at Khor Al-Zubair in southern Iraq awaiting loading operations.

Preliminary reports indicate that a localised explosion occurred on the vessel's deck on 5th March (Thursday). The tanker is registered under the Bahamas flag and is operating within the Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool.

The company said all crew members are safe and no injuries have been reported. The vessel remains stable and under operational control.

It added that safety procedures were immediately activated following the incident. Technical assessments are currently under way in coordination with local maritime authorities and relevant technical bodies.

Sonangol Trading & Shipping said it continues to monitor the situation and maintain coordination mechanisms while further evaluations are conducted.
