Preparations Under Way for Arab Entrepreneurship Summit in Iraq

Iraq's Ministry of Planning has held the second meeting of the preparatory committee for the Fourth Arab Entrepreneurship Summit, scheduled to take place in Iraq in November.

The meeting, chaired by the ministry's Undersecretary for Technical Affairs, Dr Maher Hammad Johan, addressed a range of organisational and logistical issues, including:

  • Review of the draft minutes from the first committee meeting
  • Selection of a venue from proposed options, including a presentation on Baghdad International Fairground and its infrastructure and logistical capacity
  • Formation of sub-committees covering logistics, protocol, and financial and technical matters
  • Review of ten proposed work tracks put forward by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), and discussion of the platform development process in accordance with ESCWA standards
  • Discussion of proposed local and international sponsors, invitation procedures, and sponsorship tiers
  • Updates on a memorandum of understanding and a joint letter

Participants included the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, along with directors-general and specialists from the ministries of Planning, Foreign Affairs, Industry and Minerals, Youth and Sport, Trade, Agriculture, Labour and Social Affairs, and Higher Education and Scientific Research. Also attending were representatives from the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), the Office of the Prime Minister, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the National Investment Commission (NIC), the Federation of Iraqi Industries, and the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce.
