EBRD and Iraq in Talks on Development and Banking

By John Lee.

Iraq's Ministry of Finance has held talks with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on financial and technical cooperation and support for development priorities in Iraq.

Finance Minister Falah Sari received EBRD Iraq Country Head Katarina Bjorlin Hansen on Sunday to discuss the outlook for collaboration. The minister said the ministry is working in line with a government vision focused on improving the efficiency of public financial management and directing resources towards productive and development sectors, in support of government programme priorities and development impact across the governorates.

He added that supporting development projects in the governorates - particularly in agriculture and infrastructure - is among the ministry's priorities, and that it is working to provide the necessary facilities and strengthen the investment and production environment.

The EBRD representative confirmed the bank's continued support for Iraq's efforts to improve its economic and financial situation, highlighting its programmes in energy, water, banking support, and private sector financing.
