By John Lee.

A Chinese cargo vessel has docked at Umm Qasr North Port on the first direct sailing from China via the Strait of Hormuz since the resumption of maritime navigation through the strait.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the MV KSL Xinyang arrived on Monday carrying a mixed cargo of oil sector materials and equipment alongside other commercial goods, with a total weight of 29,720 tonnes.

Dr. Farhan al-Fartusi, Director-General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI), said the arrival reflects the confidence of international shipping lines in Iraqi port capabilities and the efficiency of their maritime and logistics services. He added that the vessel's arrival sends a reassuring signal regarding the stability of maritime navigation and the continued flow of goods to Iraqi ports, despite the challenges the region has faced.
