Iraq Approves AI Engineering Clubs at Five Universities

By John Lee.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has approved the establishment of AI Engineering Clubs at five Iraqi universities, following the earlier creation of ten dedicated artificial intelligence colleges across the country.

Acting Minister Dr. Abdul Hussein Al-Moussawi (pictured) announced the move, stating that the clubs represent a new pillar for equipping young Iraqis with skills for the digital economy. The universities approved for the initiative are:

  • University of Karbala
  • University of Babylon
  • Southern Technical University
  • Al-Farabi University College
  • Al-Hussein University College

Al-Mussawi noted that the University of Baghdad and the University of Technology had led the way in the initiative and provided an academic model for others to follow.

He added that four further universities - the University of Dhi Qar, University of Sumer, Shatrah University, and Al-Ain University - are expected to join once they meet the required criteria.
