The Ministry of Industry and Minerals has held a meeting to discuss the regulation of motorcycle and spare parts imports, chaired by the ministry's Undersecretary for Planning Affairs and head of the technical team studying the import ban policy, Ahmed Abdul Jabbar Al-Karim.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Finance and Interior, the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC), and the Kurdistan Regional Government's representation office in Baghdad.
Participants reviewed the 2023 Council of Ministers decision banning motorcycle imports, and discussed ways to regulate the sector in line with current laws and the public interest.
They agreed on the importance of holding a further meeting with representatives of the General Traffic Directorate and the General Customs Authority in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region, to review data on motorcycle numbers and import routes, and to establish a unified mechanism for shifting from random to regulated imports based on approved legal and technical standards.
