Iraq's Prime Minister, Ali al-Zaidi, held talks on Thursday with a Jordanian ministerial delegation led by Jordan's Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Falah Al-Qudah, with Iraq's Minister of Industry and Minerals, Mohammed Nouri Ahmed, also in attendance.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, the Jordanian delegation also included the country's Ministers of Energy and Mineral Resources, Transport, and Investment, along with the head of the Arab Affairs Department at Iraq's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Jordan's ambassador to Iraq.
The talks covered a number of files of mutual interest, chiefly progress on the Basra-Aqaba Oil Pipeline (BAOP) project and the easing of visa procedures for businesspeople from both countries, alongside strengthening cooperation in industry, energy, transport, investment and other sectors of shared interest.
Al-Zaidi said the two countries share historic and distinguished ties, describing Jordan as an important strategic depth for Iraq, and pointed to the government's ambition to raise bilateral relations to broader levels in the coming period through increased trade and expanded investment and economic cooperation.
The Jordanian delegation conveyed greetings and congratulations from King Abdullah II and Jordanian Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan on the formation of the new government, and delivered an official invitation for Al-Zaidi to visit Jordan. Al-Qudah affirmed Jordan's full support for Iraq, praising the progress made in combating corruption, economic reforms and improving the investment environment, which he said contributes to strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
