Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki opened a project for water desalination in Faw, south of Basra, during his recent visit to the governorate.
Energy project is estimated at 800 cubic meters per hour, according to the governor of Basra Chiltag Abboud Mayah. He said that the project was funded by the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works, and implemented by a local company, includes 8 station including four in the Faw district, four in "Ceyhan" in the district of "Abi Khaseeb."
Mayah explained that the project was implemented based on the guidance of the Prime Minister after his visit to the Basra last year, during the water crisis and high levels of salinity in the Shatt al-Arab. The project made with allocation of $ 20 million, which includes the extended of water pipe from the north to the south of Basra to carry water from Nasiriyah.
