Improved Irrigation and Seeds boost Iraqi Wheat Harvest

By John Lee.

Iraq's wheat harvest was completed by July 2025 with production estimated at 5.1 million tonnes, about 13 percent above average, according to a report from the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

It says that, despite below-average rainfall amounts between October 2024 and February 2025, improved rainfall in March and April, coupled with modern irrigation systems and high-yielding seed varieties, offset water deficits and supported an above-average production.
