France Veterinary Sector visits Iraq

A meeting was held last week between Iraqi government advisers and representatives of the French Veterinary Medicines and Diagnostics Industry Association (SIMV) to explore cooperation opportunities in Iraq's livestock and agricultural sectors, with a focus on the "Stray Dog Control Strategies" project adopted by the Iraqi Prime Minister's Office.

The Iraqi delegation was led by Adham Al Fakhar, Adviser to the Prime Minister, and included Dr Basem AlAdhadh, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Agricultural Affairs and Livestock, and Mrs Zina Yaqoub Youssef, Board Member and expert in Agriculture and Livestock Affairs.

Attendees from the association included:

  • Mr Jean-Louis Hunault, President of SIMV
  • Dr Ahmed Hamdy, Regional Director of Ceva Santé Animale
  • Dr Gowri Yale, Global Rabies Programme Director at Ceva Santé Animale
  • Dr Nassim Ouagueni, Head of Veterinary Public Health and Ruminant affairs at Boehringer Ingelheim

Discussions covered veterinary public health programmes, rabies prevention strategies, and opportunities for developing partnership agreements between leading international companies and Iraqi stakeholders in the sector.
