Iraq's Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, met on Monday with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa at the People's Palace in Damascus. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani was also present.
According to the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks covered bilateral relations and avenues for expanding joint cooperation across various fields. The two sides also reviewed recent regional and international developments, and discussed the importance of enhanced coordination between the two countries on shared challenges.
State-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that discussions focused on energy infrastructure, including the project to rehabilitate oil pipelines extending from Iraq to the Syrian port of Baniyas.
In May, a delegation from Iraq's Ministry of Oil visited Damascus to discuss co-operation regarding the reactivation of the Iraq-Syria oil pipeline.
Last week, Iraq's Ministry of Water Resources and Syria's Ministry of Energy signed a document on cooperation in managing shared water resources, while Syria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held talks on establishing a logistics corridor linking Syrian ports with Gulf markets via Iraq.
